Arnsberg
Arnsberg was the final stop of a long Pentecoastweekend in 2025 when we made a trip to the uttermost eastern parts of Germany, all the way to Görlitz. From the parking lot of a supermarket, we walked up the Neuer Schloßweg to the Schloßruine. Nearby we would find the Grüner Turm photographed by Kurt Hielscher, that turned out a little less green than expected. We enjoyed the views on the city and its surroundings from the Schloßberg and the ruines of the castle on it. Before we went for dinner we found the place where Kurt Hielscher made another photo and checked out its characteristic city center.

The Green Tower. Northwest corner tower of the upper town, built of rubble stone, semicircular, three stories high with loopholes (13th century) and covered in ivy. The ground floor formerly featured an open, now bricked-up, pointed arch. The former town moat is still clearly visible."
The Grüner Turm is situated at the Stadtmauer 8.
