Berchtesgaden

The first page of Kurt Hielscher's Germany photoalbum from 1924 is quite an appealing one, and not only because it is the first page, but also because of the depth in it and because it is a really famous view which passed my timeline quite often for years. One can see the Watzman mountain range with a maximum 2713 meters of height in the back, the Locksteinstraße from where the photo is shot, and the center of Berchtesgaden with the double spired Stiftskirche Sankt Peter und Johannes der Täufer and the Franziskanerkirche in between.

Now, it was finally my turn to make the photo, but to get exactly into the footsteps of Kurt Hielscher wasn't easy. It was a long day and I made the photo after visiting Berchtesgaden with the family. The road was probably widened, making it harder to get sufficient space on the photo to catch the characteristic view instead of a lot of asphalt. I also had to hurry a bit, with the boys waiting at the foot of the Locksteinstraße where I parked the van in a not so legal way, but I can live with the result as one can see from the selfie I made, though I maybe could have taken a bit more distance.
