Ribe

Ribe, our first stop in Jutland in the summer of 2026, was founded in the early eighth century as an important Viking trading center and is famous for its cobbled streets, numerous half-timbered houses. I didn't expect to see so many here since I associate them more with Germany. There's also an imposing cathedral surrounded by large terraces on one side of the Torvet square. When strolling around town, it is like stepping back in time so I can imagine it is seen as one of the most picturesque towns in Denmark.

Strolling around the Dom. Overdammen is one of the streets that end at the Dom square at Torvat. From here just behind the terrace of the Quedensgård Cafe Og Krambod, where we had dinner, Kurt Hielscher made another photo about which later more, but here already is "the making of" with Kim eating and her ice-cream she got from Isvaflen just across street when I rephotographed Kurt Hielscher's photo. All around Jutland we noticed a lot of Danes having really huge ice-creams like everywhere the whole time which made us draw the conclusion that eating huge ice-creams with one another must be part of the cosy hygge familyculture.

Around the Domkirke.

From the Domkirke one can walk from the red half-timbered house straight into the Pugaardsgade where you can find on number 26 the yellow house from Kurt Hielscher's photo.

Puggaardsgade 26 dates from 1747 and is located on crossing of Puggaardsgade and Gravsgade and is listed as a heritage property and considered part of the historic streetscape that gives Ribe its unique character.  

There are plenty of characteristic houses in Ribe, often with hollyhocks or roses in front of it.

We had tasty dinner in a lovely environment at the Quedensgård Cafe Og Krambod.

At the edge of Ribe one can enjoy nice views and sunset at Skibbroen next to the river Ribe Å.
